In 1958
our department was created as a department of variable stars
with the purpose of more intensive researches of various classes
of variable stars, whose studies have begun in our institute
at the end of the nineteenth century. From middle of the sixtieth
years of the twentieth century the basic researches of a department
were directed on study of young non-stationary stars in star-forming
regions. In connection with expansion of a circle of scientific
tasks solved in a department, it was renamed into a department
of astrophysical researches at the end of 2001.
