The department was founded on the base of one the oldest department of astronomy, where the fundamental investigations were principally made in area of star astronomy and photographic astrometry. In particular, proper movements of more 50 thousand stars of Galaxy were determined and investigated, star-kinematic characteristics of more 30 star groups (constellations) and Galaxy were studied, and on the base of observations was also found about 3 thousand exact positions of large and small bodies of Solar System.

Current fields of research:

  • Studying star-kinematic and physical characteristics of close scattered star groups and separate chosen directions in Galaxy
  • Researching of structure and evolution of Galaxy's disk and separate spiral Galaxies
  • Theoretical modeling of early non-standing stages of evolution of Galaxy's under-systems with goal of decision corresponding cosmogony problems
  • Determination of non-stability on the background of gravitating collapse, non-linear pulses and waves of density
  • Investigation absolute proper movements of stars concerning of galaxies with goal of deduction of apexes coordinates and spacious speed of the Sun, processional constants, century parallaxes of stars and parameters of Galaxy's rotation.
